Okay, I’ll be honest. This isn’t technically the first thing I do after I wakeup. First, I eat. I swear I have the metabolism of a 5-year-old kid on speed. My stomach growling usually wakes me up before any alarm I set.
But after I have some scrambled eggs or a bowl of my new favorite cereal, (Special K Protein Cinnamon Brown Sugar Crunch) it’s workout time. All you need is a jump rope – I use a weighted one because I like pain – and 8-10 minutes of your time. 8 if you jump rope super fast. (I don’t.)
I usually stretch out my calves, hamstrings, and quads in the downtime between each cycle, but any sort of stretch or yoga pose will do – the key is to slow your heart rate down substantially before you pick it back up again.
I currently work from home, which is pretty awesome in terms of flexibility and having time for fitness. After a few hours of work and a light lunch I usually go for a short run, but my muscles are definitely less tense if I do this routine in the morning.
What’s your favorite quick, at-home workout? I would love some new ideas!
