The struggle is so, so real today, you guys. BUT – absolutely 100% worth it.
Friday after work we headed up to the mountains (that’s the Poconos for any of you unfamiliar with Pennsylvania geography!) for a weekend away with friends/ to escape the madness that was Pope Francis in Philadelphia. Don’t get me wrong, it’s really cool that he came here, but we did NOT want to deal with a million extra humans and traffic. So North we went!
My family has a gorgeous home in a gated community up there, and we try to make it up as much as possible. Usually this happens during the winter because we’re big skiers – so this was one of my first times in 10 years seeing the gorgeous mountain scenery in the fall. The leaves are just barely starting to change color and we had gorgeous sunny weather all weekend long.
Friday night we headed down the street to grab food at a local bar. It happened to be 50’s night there which turned out to be pretty hilarious as we entered hoola hoop and “twist” contests, played pool and dominated the crane machine. Plus, Sam Adams Oktoberfest <3
Saturday morning a few of the guys headed to golf at Mount Airy, another group went canoeing on a lake in the community, and a third group of us went for a hike at a nearby state park. It was awesome to catch up and get an abundance of fresh air and exercise after indulging in lots of food and drinks the night before.
Early afternoon we all freshened up and headed to meet the golfers at Barley Creek Brewing Company, which is one of my favorite restaurants in the world. If you ever go: THE PRETZELS AND QUESO ARE A MUST. This is not optional, I promise. We had an amazing meal and delicious beer, then headed back to the neighborhood to play some volleyball on the beach!
The rest the day and night were spent cooking, eating, drinking, more eating and plenty of hilarious games. We have a pool table and a shuffleboard table and both of those got used a ton all weekend, and we also played a variety of drinking games – I’m not sure we’ll ever be too old for Civil War Pong!
Sunday was a perfect day to go for a run, then lay around and watch football/grill on the deck. We played a few games of kan jam and cornhole, cleaned up the house and walked to the closest lake for some pretty views and pretty awesome photos : ) Tim and I ended up deciding to stay overnight and head straight to work this morning – we watched a movie and I had a glass of warm spiced wine – the perfect end to an amazing weekend!
Also featured below is my new FAVORITE scarf, potentially of all time. I picked it up for $15 at H&M last week and it’s the warmest, cuddliest infinity scarf in all the land. Plus, it’s the most perfect beige color – and I’m definitely an expert on beige ; ) Linking up with Erika for her scarf party – head over and check out all of her favorites for this fall!
What did you do this weekend? If you live near Philly – did you go see the Pope, have a “staycation,” or get out of town? The traffic barriers weren’t lifted until noon today, so I headed into Malvern for work – I’m lucky I had that option!
