Confession: For a long time – mostly during my college years – I was under the impression that only people from The Jersey Shore wore animal print clothing. To be fair, the stores where I shopped at didn’t really carry anything in that style yet, so I presumed that leopard print was only for an “out on the town” type of outfit.
I was SO wrong.
Animal print, but specifically leopard, is gorgeous and versatile… when worn correctly. I still wouldn’t go out and buy a skin-tight dress in the pattern, but this blouse from the Loft? The absolute perfect amount for any outfit. Here I’ve got it paired with black skinny jeans from AE and wedge booties (also Loft) but I frequently throw it on with regular denim, a cozy cardigan or puffy vest and flat boots for a totally different look. I’m eyeing up wine-colored jeans next – I think the leopard will look amazing next to that shade!
When I first read the November prompts for The Creative Closet, I was (of course) immediately drawn to the word “neutral” – because, HELLO. My ideal color scheme. After actually reading further and realizing that leopard was the neutral that Jana and Meagen were referring to, I was even more excited. I don’t wear a ton of patterns, but I’m definitely working on expanding my wardrobe choices and I knew this would be a great way to go through my closet to see what paired best with leopard print.
Unfortunately, my entire outfit is a few seasons old (just proves that a classic animal print can give you multiple years of use!) but here are a few current choices I found in a couple of my favorite stores:
