Is it really already Monday again!? We just spent a wonderful weekend visiting Tim’s brother Ryan at school. He goes to University of Virginia and somehow he’s already a SENIOR. What!? When I met Tim, Ryan was 9. Just to put that into perspective for you : )
We both took off on Friday and headed down in the morning to make the most of our weekend getaway. Ryan and his wonderful girlfriend (hi Nicole!) are two of our very favorite people to hang out with but unfortunately we don’t get to see them all that often – so this trip was definitely a treat. The next time we’re back at UVA, it might be for their graduation! Can someone please hire both of them right here in Philly?!
We started off with a quick drink & snack at the Mellow Mushroom, then Ryan headed to lacrosse practice for a few hours while Nicole showed us some of their awesome engineering projects and the Rotunda on campus. We met back up with Ry and headed downtown to Draft – which was one of the coolest bars I’ve ever been to. You load a card with money (cash or credit card,) pour either full or tasting size amounts of beer/cider from a huge selection of 60 different taps, and pay by the ounce.
Afterwards we walked down to Escape Room to spend an hour solving clues with 4 awesome strangers in a “locked” room. Have you ever done an escape room? I can’t recommend our experience enough – we had a blast working through all of the puzzles and meeting new people. I would say that 8 was maybe a bit much for one small room, but otherwise it was a ton of fun!
Saturday morning we were up bright and early to hike Humpback Rock! I had asked Nicole if we could do something “active” this weekend since I knew there would be a lot of indulging and she picked out this awesome hike about 30 minute from UVA. We huffed and puffed (me) and pretended we were in Lord of the Rings (the boys) and had a great time sliding down rocks and taking pictures at the top.
The best way to reward yourself after a hike? Brunch, especially one with 1 cent mimosa refills! (For anyone local, we ate at Cafe Caturra and loved all of our food and drinks. Tim’s Bloody Mary was a work of art and we couldn’t stop talking about the affogato either ((espresso poured over vanilla gelato!))
The rest of Saturday was spent at an absolutely crazy party at Ryan’s lacrosse house, an awesome nearby bar, dinner at Michael’s Bistro and drinking games back at the apartment – basically everything “college” we could possibly do. On Sunday we enjoyed breakfast tacos at Brazos before driving 4 hours home and eating lots of pizza while watching some Parks and Rec.
