In these dreary days of winter (side note: why do we use the term “dog days” of summer negatively? dogs rule.) I am oftentimes dreaming of all that I love about the warmer months. Don’t get me wrong, the holidays, hot coffee and a ski slope of fresh powder are a few of my favorite things. But I do find myself getting a little nostalgic for summer nights spent toasting s’mores on the firepit with the Eagles Pandora station playing and a glass of sangria by my side.
Have I used enough imagery yet to depress you? No worries – there are only 143 days left until Memorial Day AND I’ve got the easiest ever DIY project for you to replicate those summer nights right in your own living room. Check it out – our version of a Tabletop S’mores Station!
This was insanely easy to assemble – I’m not even sure I can call it a “project.” But we did screw on a thin strip of wood underneath the crate for support because the pots got rather heavy when filled. Basically I poured rocks into each pot until about 3/4 of the way full, added a Sterno to each, then placed rocks around the edges to keep the fuel in place.
Settled into a nice crate (which you could stain or paint!) and bagged up with marshmallows, chocolate and graham crackers and you’ve got an inexpensive and crazy adorable gift idea! Mine was created for a Pollyanna with Tim’s family and opened late in the game, much to the earlier participant’s dismay ; )
Pro Tip: Let the Sterno get nice and hot before you start toasting, and be very careful when re-capping the open flames. #toastmallows #notfingers
I’ll make this easy for you: run a few quick errands to your local dollar store and craft store, send out a text to a group of fellow s’more lovers, pop on a good playlist and enjoy a cozy version of a summer bonfire right from the comforts of your kitchen : ) Happy DIYing!
