January has somehow managed to be both busy and relaxing at the same time – both of which are why I’ve been a bit absent from this space ; ) Taking time to workout, travel and recharge my batteries leaves less time for blogging, and that’s totally okay by me! I think it’s important to play around with balance to make sure you’re taking care of all the different aspects of life – all while being aware that some days you’re not going to manage to “get it all done” and that’s NORMAL. Healthy, even. Maegen has been snapchatting Emily Ley’s book “Grace Not Perfection” and I’m definitely going to order this one for myself – Check it out if you haven’t already!
Life lately has been all about little trips. Travel always puts me in the best mood – for weeks beforehand as I plan and pack and then for the entirety of the weekend as I enjoy the destination! Leaving… that’s a whole other story. Let’s just say extra espresso was needed on Sunday in order for me to not crash the car.
A few weeks ago before we started leaving town, we got to watch our best friends play music at a nearby brewery! Chas, Sohum and Eric formed a band back in high school called “The Stuff” and we always loved watching them perform – they even played in my garage at my 16th birthday party! They recently reunited and have started to schedule shows at nearby bars to play awesome 90’s covers and singing along to Blink 182 with all of my best friends was a great way to spend a Friday night. “It’s like high school, except with beer!”
Last week we headed out Friday after work to spend the weekend in the mountains! Tim and I arrived to a wonderfully warm house (Nest is amazing) and got dinner started before Chrissy,Brandon, Bob & Kate showed up. Have you ever done a “shotski” before? We saw one at a ski lodge many years ago and my parents immediately started plotting to make our own. Probably the classiest way to consume alcohol in shot format ; ) And yes, Chrissy is kneeling on a stool to be tall enough!
This past weekend we headed west to State College to reunite with a bunch of Tim’s old hockey teammates! For his Christmas present I surprised him with tickets to PSU vs. Ohio State ice hockey on Saturday and an Airbnb with all of the guys and some girlfriends : ) We had a blast pretending we could still hang like college kids (spoiler alert: I cannot) eating wings and pizza and listening to some awesome live music at a few bars downtown.
These two tiny trips were exactly what I needed to beat the “January blues” after the holidays ended. I am definitely the type to plan ahead and having something to look forward to helps on those days where you can’t seem to catch a break – and I can’t wait to get back here and keep sharing all of the adventures with you guys. Stay tuned for a delicious and EASY protein muffin recipe, a Galentine’s brunch planning guide and a few new favorite purchases!
