Here are a few fun facts: 1. Today it is supposed to hit 92 degrees in Philadelphia and we have seemingly skipped spring altogether and headed straight into sticky summer heat. 2. When I left my birthday brunch two weekends ago, I walked out of the restaurant with 8 bottles of champagne, bringing my total bottles acquired to 10 in 3 days. My friends know me OH so well. 3. Champagne + fruit = bubbly sangria. Why this has not occurred to me before is literally BEYOND me, but today’s heatwave couldn’t be a more perfect time to share this simple Champagne Sangria recipe for some porch or patio relaxing with the ones you love! Happy Friday eve! ; )
Start with a bottle (or two if you’re hosting a group) of your favorite champagne or prosecco. I’m partial to dry but you could also go sweet since we’re aiming for that result anyway! Add a few handfuls of fresh fruit* to an empty pitcher, pour a quarter cup of sugar over top and slowly add the bubbly while mixing gently. Allow your sangria to steep in the fridge overnight for best (and prettiest!) results – but be sure to cover the pitcher so no other flavors find their way in.
*I used strawberries & pineapple just like my normal sangria “recipe” but really, go with what you love. Mango would be AMAZING. And yes, I’m aware the watermelon pitcher is deceiving but it happened to be the only one in the house. #fortheblog
May I humbly suggest heading out to your patio/porch/deck/lawn/balcony/outside area of choice to enjoy said Champagne Sangria? ((Please ignore the fact that our deck table looks like it’s about to fall over. It’s not. I am perplexed by the angle of the table leg.)) We have to take advantage of the warmth every minute of the summer months up here in Philly, so we have happy memories to look upon while we trudge through Nor’easters and lose feeling in our faces come winter. Dramatic, but true.
