Today’s post is going to be a litttttle different. Today my best friend turns 30, so today I’m going to take you down 14 years of ridiculous memories accompanied by even more ridiculous photographs in order to properly commemorate her day of birth. Basically, I knew this would be too long for a Facebook post so it’s happening here instead ; ) Happiest of birthdays to YOU Kelly Delaney – And thank you for being my person for over a decade, and for putting up with all of my shenanigans throughout the years!!
Our slight obsession with one another began during a high school soccer season. As Kelly was recovering from double knee surgery (she’s fragile) I had the excellent foresight to destroy every ligament in my ankle so that we could commiserate our injuries on the bench together as we watched our team dominate. I mean, seriously, how good looking is this soccer team…? Yes, we had paw prints on our shorts. #GoJags
Despite Kelly (and Tim and everyone I ever loved) leaving me for college in 2006, we obviously remained best friends. This wasn’t super difficult as Saint Joe’s was really not very far away at all. We spent summers frolicking around Garnet Valley or Avalon with our gang of decently responsible compadres and took adorable pictures at overpriced mini-golf courses. Someday, ask me about the blender story and why Kelly isn’t allowed to leave us unsupervised ; )
Blue cups are definitely classier than red cups, wouldn’t you agree? Also, having a best friend who will help you clean up after you throw a palooza of a house party – EVEN WHEN SHE DIDN’T DRINK and/or CONTRIBUTE TO THE MESS – is probably the best kind of best friend you can have. Can anyone explain why I was wearing my belt like that…?
We’re diehard Philly sports fans – well, we’re diehard Flyers fans and we love the Phillies and the Union – so of course we made it to a postseason game the year the Phils PHINALLY won the World Series! Shoutout to Dan and Linda for taking pity on our poor college student selves and gifting us this magical experience. We were pretty jubilant walking back to our cars afterwards and after spotting a Fox29 news van, I thought calling their tip hotline would be an excellent idea.
“Hello, Fox29 News, what’s your tip?”
“Yes, hi. THE PHILLIES ARE GOING TO THE WORLD EFFING SERIES!” *hangs up*
Kelly likes to remind me of this memory often (as the team hasn’t played nearly as well since 2009) and I crack up laughing every time, picturing her and her family’s faces as I screamed through the phone at the unsuspecting intern on the other line.
Please take a closer look at this photograph. Notice the glee, the hand gestures, Kelly’s bomb hairstyle. Now here’s the backstory: Kelly’s brother Brian got married in Ithaca (at a farmer’s market on a lake, no less) and Kelly, Tim, our friend Nick and I were able to join the Delaney’s for a weekend of glamping, wine tasting, firepits, and plenty of dancing at the EPIC reception. This photo – captured 10000% candidly – depicts (L-R) me, Kelly’s brother Danny, SIL Sabrina, brother Kevin, SIL Christina and Kelly screaming/singing “Total Eclipse of the Heart” to the newlyweds. The Old School version. Oops, sorry kiddos. #theyrefine #ithink
From one wedding to the next, I would just like to point out how Kelly supports me no matter what nonsense I embark upon during a champagne filled haze at the reception. Here we are at our friends Eric and Meghan’s wedding playing the timeless classic “Spin the Bottle Dance-Off.” Every bride pictures her guests crowded around an empty bottle chanting “get low,” right? Right. Also, if you need a bridesmaid, Kelly is really REALLY good at helping, organizing and crying profusely. Plus she looks hot in that dress.
And finally, a photo of our four. These girls have been there for nearly all of the 14 years I speak of, and we have made some amazing memories along the way. I couldn’t talk about my friendship with Kelly without including Kat and Krista too – and no, i’m not JKKK-ing that all of their names start with K… ; ) We’ve been through it all and will continue to be there for each other as we grow older (inevitable) wiser (hopefully) and as our lives change (for better or worse (wow this is starting to sound like wedding vows…))
Love you XAG Kell – always have, always will <3 Happy 30th!
