I don’t know about you guys, but when 5:30 on Friday hits I am in FULL ON WEEKEND MODE. Whether or not I have exciting plans, I immediately wave goodbye to “productive, focused, healthy” Jacqui and give a warm welcome to “sleeping late, drinking beer, not folding my laundry for 3 days” Jacqui. I like both versions of myself, don’t get me wrong – everyone needs a break after a long workweek! I just wish Monday Jacqui and Saturday Jacqui could compromise and become one awesome personality who enjoys a cold beer while writing blog posts, or goes for a nice long run after indulging in a decadent breakfast.
Now I sound like I’m bipolar. Guys, I’m not bipolar. I’m just lazy on the weekends, okay?
Last weekend we escaped Philadelphia and drove up north to throw our own version of Popeapalooza in the mountains! After an awesome party at the local bar and a night spent playing games and laughing hysterically with my best friends, you wouldn’t think I’d be up and ready to workout at 7am. Alas, something about the sunrise up here just calls to me – and something about the miles and miles of gated community roads just entice my inner runner.
How do I get motivated to workout when I travel? Easy. Okay, explain it then smartypants. No, I mean I literally KEEP IT EASY. I don’t always mean short and sweet – sometimes I mean convenient and fun! : ) I am WAY more likely to exercise if I plan really simple, easily attainable workout goals. For example: Instead of forcing myself to go for a solo run – even though I would have eventually enjoyed it – I got my Saturday morning exercise while hiking with 2 of my galpals in the state park nearby!
Saturday afternoon after the brewery, we headed back to the community and played 3 games of beach volleyball until we were sandy and exhausted – Workout #2, done. Sunday arrived and I seriously struggled to find the motivation to exercise when everyone else was drinking beer and watching football. But, the sunshine and warm breeze won me over and I ran a leisurely 5 miles that included a more than a few photo op stops… #blametheblog
In between all of that unconventional cardio, I managed to fit in a few quick bodyweight workouts in my room, pre-shower. Here’s one of those workouts combined with a gorgeous photo from this weekend, to remind you that even when you’ve had a mini-keg of Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest and enough jalapeno queso to feed 16 people, you can still find the motivation to exercise ; ) Pin it now, do it later!
