I like to cook, I really do. I like cooking even better when someone else washes the dishes afterwards ; ) But since I still live at home, my mother is a wonderful cook, I don’t get home til after 6 everyday and I don’t buy groceries, I don’t really have many opportunities to fine tune my kitchen skillz.
After I read about Amanda‘s Blue Apron experience however, I was totally intrigued. You mean to say that someone ELSE does the shopping for me? AND picks out the recipe? Tell me more about this magical service! I used her coupon code to sign up for 3 meals for 2 people, made sure I would be able to use Tim’s kitchen (since his family was still down the shore) and anxiously awaited my delivery.
IT. WAS. AMAZING. I mean, seriously. THINGS ARE MEASURED FOR YOU. There was still chopping and peeling, obviously, but Blue Apron basically simplifies the “prep” work for each meal so that you can spend less time in front of the stove and more time enjoying a delicious dinner with the people you love.
The first meal we tried was Crispy Catfish with Sicilian Eggplant Caponata. You guys, I barely eat seafood. Until this summer I was strictly clams and crabs, with the occasional taste test of white fish. So I was fairly apprehensive about this meal, as you can imagine. I had no reason to worry – it was absolutely incredible. The fish was cooked to perfection and the flavor combinations in the caponata were surprisingly fantastic.
Tim played along as half sous chef (stirring, mostly) and half photographer – so you can give him due credit for these lovely captures of our meal prep. I didn’t photograph the creation of any of our other meals (we’ve currently tried 5/6 meals of my two deliveries) but here’s a few snapshots of the finished products:
What do you think – would you try Blue Apron? The food was fresh, the meals were easy to prepare and the customer service was incredible, even when it came time to cancel! The only reasons we aren’t continuing – the slightly high price, and the lack of our own kitchen to consistently prepare meals in, which is fairly important ; )
Thanks for 5 wonderful dinner dates, Blue Apron!
