Let’s be honest – none of us actually needs another bottle of perfume, a giant box of chocolates, or lacy new underwear. Wait, never mind. I will NEVER turn down that beautiful pink striped bag.
But for the past few years I’ve found myself giving and appreciating gifts so much more when they involve some type of activity or experience! Unlike a bouquet of flowers (another thing I’ll never turn down) these presents come with the guarantee of making a memory with someone you love! I’ve rounded up a few different ideas in this category just in time for Valentine’s Day – keeping mostly to the Philadelphia area, but they can certainly be adapted to your hometown as well : ) Enjoy, and happy gifting!
Cookie School: “The City of Love” Inspired Cookie Decorating Class
Do you ever hear about an event and get really REALLY excited about it, only to go order tickets and find out that it happened 3 weeks ago? Me too. FOMO is real, y’all and I only know of one way to combat it: websites like Eventbrite, where you can search by city and date to see EXACTLY what’s coming up so you don’t miss out! For example:
Cookie decorating sounds like a pretty top notch gift for your guy OR your best galpal – honestly, as long as I get to consume the goods afterwards, I don’t even care if anyone else comes with me… This one is in Philly, but take a look in your city and see if you can find something similar! – OR if you happen to be hosting your own kick@ss event , you can even use Eventbrite to promote and sell tickets! High five for convenience.
Paint Night via Groupon
Saving money AND getting to leave with a (hopefully) decent piece of art?! Sign me up. These Paint Night classes are SO much fun – most of them let you BYO drinks and snacks and the atmosphere is always really relaxed and enjoyable : )
Escape the Room
I first heard about this concept a few years ago and it sounded SO cool – but there wasn’t one anywhere near us. WELP, since then a handful have popped up in different locations around the city and Tim and I can’t wait to try it out – You (and a group of friends or strangers) get “locked” in a room and have to solve logic puzzles to escape! I doubt they recommend drinking prior to the event, however… ; )
Helium Comedy Club
You can’t go wrong gifting a night of hilarious comedy and delicious food – and Helium provides both of those at pretty affordable prices too! Don’t have a Helium in your city? Search around – you’ll probably find a similar club or venue. If you haven’t heard of the upcoming comedians, try a few of them out via YouTube or Pandora – see what you like!
Annnnd last but not least…
Indoor Golf Simulator
This is totally on my bucket list. You play golf with your normal clubs and balls, facing a giant screen on your own private “course.” No one’s rushing you, it’s climate controlled (this is very important to me lol) and you can even have lunch while you play! At this particular place you pay only for the amount of time you play – which is also important given that I tend to get annoyed after about 7 holes ; ) .. but i’m still learning!
I hope this was helpful – even though most of my suggestions are for my area specifically, I’m sure they’re all adaptable to wherever it is that you live, work or play. Happy early Valentine’s!
