If I could see all of you reading that post title right now, I would bet my secret stash of Dove chocolates* that you snorted and shook your head. “Not possible,” you’re saying with a smirk. Guys, I feel you. I only have to wrangle my mom, dad and 24 year old brother for holiday cards and it’s STILL a hassle most years – can you guess who complains most? But, after all this time of being in charge of the card, I think I’ve finally figured out the perfect 3-step system. Read on, be amazed.
Step 1: Get EVERYTHING THAT YOU COULD POSSIBLY NEED AND MAYBE ABOUT 4 THINGS YOU PROBABLY WON’T NEED ready ahead of time. ALL OF IT. If you set up the photoshoot – literally had my camera on a tripod in our backyard – set out outfits and gather any “props” necessary, your humans won’t have too many opportunities to complain.
“Hey all of you people who are related to me. Get dressed and be in the backyard at approximately 3:30pm with a smile on your face. Photos will begin at 3:31 and end at 3:34. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.”
Wondering what I mean by props? We had mugs and glasses to “cheers” but this could mean anything from blankets to clothing accessories to Santa hats to full out furniture. Be creative! Look for new ways to group your people – Some sitting, some kneeling, some standing – mix it up to add depth and interest to your photo. Alternatively, stand normally and be happy with the single shot you get where everyone’s looking at the camera at the same time ; )
Step 2: Upload your photos and use Minted to create the perfect holiday cards in minutes. MINUTES. Filter by # of photos, orientation, color and more. Wanna know the best part? Upload your recipient addresses and Minted will print them directly on your envelopes for free. NO CARPAL TUNNEL FOR YOU THIS YEAR!
Not to mention, everything they offer is insanely beautiful and a step above other companies in quality and customer service. Every single time I have worked with Minted, I have been more than pleased with how my products have turned out and the special touches they include in your packages. Right now you can save 20% sitewide with code CM17, AND you can get 1.5% cash back if you use Ebates (which you better be!)
Need some ideas? This “Happiest Holidays” script is GORGEOUS and the white font will stand out beautifully against some red or green attire if you so choose. If you’re looking to incorporate a few photos instead of just one, I love the options for this “Plaid Tidings” – you can even fit one on the back!
I don’t hide the fact that those ^ are affiliate links – I’m letting you know right here, mid-post. But I love Minted so much I don’t even care if you use the links. Just know that when it comes to paper products, you get what you pay for and you deserve the quality Minted provides.
Step 3: Booze.
We obviously incorporated a few beverages into our card itself (cheers!) but I highly recommend spiking a coffee or hot chocolate while you upload, edit and create your holiday cards this year. Light a seasonal candle, blast the Michael Buble and actually enjoy the process with my 100% patented (nope) 3-step system to holiday card success.
PSA: The Target dollar spot is, once again, killing it with seasonal goodies. I can ALWAYS find a fantastic $3 candle in the mix and that scarf you see above? $7 and the exact dupe of a $40 version – I’ve gotten compliments like crazy each and every time I’ve worn it. Delightfully warm. Decidedly inexpensive.
‘Tis the season for sipping right? In all seriousness, no matter how much of a pain it might be to round up the troops every year for a photo, the resulting card is definitely a memory you will treasure. Even if the toddler is crying or refusing to look directly at the camera, you’ll end up with a moment in time that accurately captures life for your family at that stage. And all you mamas out there? Don’t hide behind the lens and only feature your babies on the holiday cards this year – You are BEAUTIFUL and you deserve to be in the frame and the memory.
*Definitely not giving up those Dove chocolates so don’t even try it ; )
