You guys. We did it. It’s Friday. Hopefully the workday flies by (or the kids are in bed before you know it ((or both)) and you’re finally opening that bottle of wine you’ve been side-eyeing all week ; ) I can’t wait to enjoy a delicious dinner and some Pinot Grigio tonight with my fellow bridesmaids before we try on dresses for Krista’s upcoming August wedding. Though perhaps stuffing ourselves with Italian before dress shopping is not one of our better ideas… I digress. Last weekend I also got to enjoy some liquid grapes when I accompanied my mom to a wine, cheese & honey pairing at a local vineyard!
We absolutely love it here – we come with Tim’s entire family every Mother’s Day and set up camp on the lawn beside the vineyard with snacks, chairs and plenty of games. We also try to make it here a few times throughout the year for other events or just to sip some delicious wine on a random weekend. In the summer I’m partial to their delicious sangria (here’s my copycat recipe!) and in the winter I’m slightly obsessed with the warm mulled variety they make : )
I thought I’d put together a quick roundup of my favorite local places to try wine – I put “around Philadelphia” because they’re all within a 30-40 minute drive of the city and one is downtown! Easier than writing “top 5 spots scattered around the tri-state area that have no connection but are all delicious so you should go there.” Right? Right. Carry on.
In no particular order, here are a few of the top tasting locations I’ve found so far:
Penns Woods Winery – We’re starting here since that’s where my latest pairing took place… So I guess there’s an order after all ; ) Located in Chadds Ford, PA – minutes from 202 and around 10 from 95 – they offer tons of great events year round and they always have something new to try!
Chaddsford Winery – Another local favorite, located down route 1 towards Longwood Gardens (make a day trip out of it!) They also host great events and often invite food trucks along for the fun. Definitely go in winter for their hot apple spiced wine!
Pinot Boutique – A little bit different, this city spot doesn’t make their own wine but they do offer tastings. Located in Old City on Market street they also boast a variety of classes and private party options for the wine lover in your life!
Grace Winery – Quickly becoming a favorite wedding destination with their gorgeous grounds and on-site bed and breakfast, located in Glen Mills right off of Baltimore Pike. If you’ve got guests coming from out of town, have them stay over and take advantage of the amenities the property has to offer after you do a tasting in the gorgeous barn built in the 1750’s!
Auburn Road Winery – For all you Jersey people, Auburn is located in Pilesgrove right on Sharptown road. The scenery is beautiful, especially at the sunset, and the coordinating restaurant fills up weekend reservations faster than you can drink that glass of Pinot on the patio. Stop by on your way to the shore this summer!
Happy Weekend to you and yours!
