If you know me at all (or if you browsed my “about” page) you know two things: I love food, and I love beer. When Devils Backbone Brewery reached out and invited Tim and I to a pairing dinner to celebrate their arrival in PA stores, I almost knocked my computer over in my rush to reply. Seriously, I’m kind of a spaz.
The chef at Steam Pub in Southampton, PA put together this amazing 5 course adventure to show off 5 of DBB’s best brews. We enjoyed chicken chili with Vienna Lager, spicy shrimp & Spanish rice with Eight Point IPA, a sausage stuffing stuffed pork loin (say that 3 times fast) with Black Lager, a salad with mixed fruits and Pear Lager and for dessert – red velvet chocolate mousse with Cocoa Bear stout. Are you feeling full just reading that? Because I’m in a food coma after typing it.
We had a wonderful time chatting with our table mates – one of the guys actually used to work with Tim’s company so they had quite a bit to talk about – and listening to the brewmasters describe each course. I also had to show the DBB crew this amazing guitar inspired by their logo – Tim’s brother Ryan’s girlfriend Nicole created this for an engineering class at UVA, and she and Ry were actually the ones to introduce us to Vienna Lager back in November!
If your state already sells Devils Backbone I highly, highly suggest you check them out. My personal favorite was the Black Lager, Tim loved the Eight Point IPA and I think the Pear Lager is the perfect “gateway beer” for any cider lovers out there. And can you believe they let us keep those gorgeous handmade tasting paddles & glasses!? #spoiled – Thank you for having us DBB, and welcome to PA – Cheers! : )
