You know those weekends you want to do over again and again? Despite the definite lack of sleep and the time spent in the car, I’d gladly redo our Hunter Mountain adventure in a heartbeat! I headed out Thursday evening to pick Tim up after work and we enjoyed a pizza and beer date night at his favorite local place before climbing back in the car. We spent the night at my family’s house in the Poconos to shorten the trip and I loooved waking up to cooler temps – and delicious breakfast! – before heading to Hunter.
We used Airbnb to book a beautiful condo right next to the slopes and we had the most incredible mountain views right outside our door! Tim and I unpacked, grabbed beers and enjoyed them on the porch while we waited for the rest of our group to arrive.
We took a walk down towards the lodge to check out the event grounds and watched the sun dip over the mountains while we sat in chairs made out of old skis. It felt crazy to be on a ski slope in October, dressed in a fall outfit, walking through dirt – but awesome! When Nicole and Ryan arrived, we took another walk down to the hotel the boys used to stay when they were little… mainly to scope out the pool situation to see if we could sneak in later ; )
After a few games of cornhole, delicious chicken tacos and our 5th wheel arriving at the condo, we walked down the slopes again (sense a theme?) to the hotel bar. With bathing suits under our clothes, just in case! We had a blast sitting outside by the fire, telling ridiculous stories, people-watching a wedding party and climbing walls we shouldn’t have. The pool had been covered by that point so I’m sad to report our illegal swim never happened… next time!
Stay tuned for Part 2 – our hike up the Kaaterskill Falls and the actual Hunter Mountain Oktoberfest event!
