I don’t know about you guys, but my parents are some of the most important people in my life. And I don’t know about YOU guys, but I tend to go a little overboard when it comes time to celebrate the most important people in my life – #unashamed
Mother’s & Father’s Day are no exception. We usually plan a dinner or a BBQ if the weather is nice, but I love to buy my parents actual gifts as well. There’s just something about watching a loved one unwrapping a physical present, especially one that you’ve put a lot of thought into!
But after so many years, your parents can become increasingly difficult to shop for – mine frequently claim that there’s nothing they need. Well too bad, because I’ve got a pretty great list of gift ideas – DtD-tested DIY’s, awesome Tech presents, and cool stuff under $30! Feel free to steal them all ; )
I mean, c’mon. Can’t you just picture the whole family gathered around these adorable little firepots, with sticky fingers and probably a few too many glasses of wine? This has my mom written all over it – we recently bought new deck furniture and these pots are the perfect mix of gorgeous and functional to complement the upgrade. We tested these babies out on the kitchen table tonight – you know, just to make sure they worked…
Tech: FitBit One / Flex*
If your mom is anything like mine, then she loves to workout but technology frequently stumps her. Phyllis and her partner in crime Cheryl love to go for long walks around the neighborhood, but it seems like every time I come along, one or both of them is having trouble with their GPS exercise app. Enter the FitBit – No matter which model you buy, she’ll never miss a step. *I can personally vouch for both the One and Flex as awesome products, but feel free to ignore me and pick a different style instead!
Under $30: Custom Jewelry
Listen, you guys. I know this post is supposed to be about Mother’s Day gifts and how much she’d really love these personalized bracelets, but let’s not forget that my birthday is coming up too… Seriously, I’m kinda in love with these simple and beautiful bangles from Etsy, and I think any Mom would be too. You could even get her a bracelet per kid*, with each siblings’ respective initials!
*Not recommended for the Duggar family.
DIY: Floating Beer Cooler
Does your Dad have a pool in the backyard? Does he like to take trips down the river, or float on the lake? Has he ever drank a beverage in a body of water? This DIY is an actual no-brainer. Pool noodles, a plastic container & rope. You’re definitely going to be the favorite child.
Tech: Bluetooth Speakers
This is actually what we got my dad for Father’s day LAST year – and after a few months of being unsatisfied, he traded them in for another set, which he uses allllll the time. If your parents are outdoorsy like mine, I highly recommend a weatherproof option. My personal favorites: the Bose Soundlink for indoor use, the JBL Charge 2 for ultra-portability, and the Brookstone Big Blue Party for outdoor use.
Under $30: Personalized Cooler
Yes, I’m aware that puts two coolers on the same list. But this one has an entirely different purpose! You see, in the lovely state of Pennsylvania we have a beautiful concept called BYOB – Bring Your Own Beverage. Restaurants without liquor licenses can become BYOB’s, and allow patrons to carry-in the beer, wine or liquor of their choice. My father currently uses a hard cooler with no shoulder strap from (I swear) the early 90’s. I think he’d look just a tiny bit classier with a custom soft cooler, don’t you?
That’s a wrap! Hopefully you’ve found a gift idea, or gotten inspired for something completely different. I tend to go on unrelated rants, so perhaps one day my rambling will come in handy for someone – or so I hope.
